On Thursday 24th November 2011, members of the Wadlow Community Liaison Group (CLG) visited Wadlow Wind Farm to gain an update on progress. The site visit was organised as part of RES's ongoing consultation with communities near the wind farm and was attended by representatives from West Wratting, Fulbourn, Great Wilbraham, Little Wilbraham & Six Mile Bottom, Balsham and Brinkley.

A presentation on progress combined with an opportunity to ask questions and a subsequent tour around site brought everyone up to date on the programme and gave the group the chance to see some of the construction works first hand.

Among the highlights was a view of the concrete turbine foundations in various stages of completion. These structures are not normally seen by members of the public, because they are backfilled and covered with top soil once they are completed. Another interesting aspect was the crane hardstandings, which have been created using a recycled plastic mesh. This is a relatively new technique and is considered less disruptive than traditional hardstanding because the mesh provides permanent stabilisation of the ground, but allows native vegetation to grow through.

As a result of the mild weather over the last few months, the hardworking construction team are currently ahead of schedule in some areas. The last of the foundations and grid connection cables have been laid and turbine delivery is on course for the new year, with generation predicted for June 2012.
